Choosing a fragrance, whether for yourself or for someone else, can often be a challenging but fun decision to make. Sometimes you might look for a classic favourite or be inclined to try something new. Regardless, the fragrance always needs to match your preferences or the specific occasion you want it for.
This post provides a guide for if you are struggling to decide on what fragrance to purchase. We have broken down specific seasons and events throughout the year, discussing which of our fragrances will most suit them and their requirements.
New Year:
New year, new you, new fragrance! This time of year, whilst exciting, is often cold, dark and a little bit wet. You’ve moved on from Christmas, though your waistline might not have, and want a change from the rich, fruity scents of the season. Heading into the darkest part of winter we would recommend more woody and amber-based fragrances as these project well across rooms and bring a sense of warmth to a space. Our Oriental and Woody collection provides some of the most relevant fragrances and include scents such as Classic Amber or Sandalwood and Leather.
Spring:
The end of the long, dark winter, spring is the start of growth with new colours and scents. To bring the outside in fresh, delicate florals are best for this time of year. We would recommend Pink Fairy Dust due to its soft but sweet florals. Alternatively, Forests of Blue can bring the woodland to your living room with its bluebell and hyacinth top notes. If you prefer an intense floral fragrance Serenity may be the perfect option for you.
Summer:
The heat is here! As too are the long days and time spent in the garden. This is the perfect time to bring out the citrus and fruity fragrances that otherwise might have been just too strong in winter. Amber Sweet Orange is a great scent for both outdoor and indoor use. With notes of orange, bergamot and jasmine it’s often irresistible in summer. Alternatively, you could choose Soft Plum and Rhubarb (one of our best-selling fragrances and customer favourites). Sweet and warming, it is perfect for enjoying whilst watching the sun set.
Autumn:
Bring on the damp days and darker nights, Autumn is a time for enjoying the falling leaves but being ready to cozy down at home when the weather gets just too wet and miserable. Warming, woody scents are the best go-to fragrances during this time. Why not try Relaxing Lounge with its bergamot and sage notes? Teak Sandalwood is also a great option for its warm amber and musk scents.
Weddings:
A time of celebration, joining together and change. Whether it is for your own wedding, or to give as a gift on the special day, soft florals are often great for the bride with more musk-rich scents suitable for the groom. Black Orchid is an excellent choice for soft florals. The orchid flower is also a symbol of love, affection and respect. Cuban Leaf is a more masculine fragrance with a strong musk scent and can be another great alternative.
Anniversaries:
A celebration of love and commitment, anniversaries are a great time to introduce new fragrances into the home. Each anniversary, particularly a wedding anniversary, has a specific theme so it’s important to relate your fragrance to that. As the 1st anniversary is themed to paper, clean, powdery scents will be good. Long lasting relationships and celebrations call for more bold and sophisticated fragrances – Sandalwood and Leather might be a great choice for you.
Funerals / Death:
Whether morning those you’ve recently lost or celebrating their life, fragrance is an important aspect of these events. Often, we may need a comforting fragrance, one that reminds us of happier moments. For those times a familiar and personal favourite might be most suitable. However, as scent can often bring back memories, sometimes when they might be sad and unwanted, some people prefer a change in scent after a death. Sage and Sea Salt can bring clarity to some in darker times, otherwise Classic Amber is another fragrance that can provide change but still has a warming and familiar feel.
